Formula
=MOD(number, divisor)

Hello everyone! Today i will show you how to use MOD, QUOTIENT, POWER, SQRT, SQRTPI, and PI functions in Microsoft Excel step by step.

1. MOD & QUOTIENT Functions (Division & Remainder)

What is MOD Function?

The MOD function returns the remainder (leftover number) after dividing a number by a divisor.

=MOD(number, divisor)
  • number: The number you want to divide.
  • divisor: The number to divide by.

What is QUOTIENT Function?

The QUOTIENT function returns only the integer part of a division (it ignores the remainder).

=QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator)

📋 Example: Share 14 Apples to 4 Friends

Suppose Cell A2 = 14 (Total apples) and B2 = 4 (Total friends):

=QUOTIENT(A2, B2)

👉 Result: 3
(Each friend gets 3 full apples!)

=MOD(A2, B2)

👉 Result: 2
(2 leftover apples remaining in your hand!)

2. POWER & SQRT Functions (Exponents & Square Root)

What is POWER Function?

The POWER function calculates a number raised to a exponent power.

=POWER(number, power)

Note: You can also use caretaker operator ^ like =5^2.

What is SQRT Function?

The SQRT function calculates the positive square root of a number.

=SQRT(number)

📋 Simple Examples

  • Calculate 5 Squared (5²):

    =POWER(5, 2)

    👉 Result: 25

  • Calculate Square Root of 25 (√25):

    =SQRT(25)

    👉 Result: 5

3. PI & SQRTPI Functions (Geometry & Circle Math)

What is PI Function?

The PI function returns the constant value of π (pi) accurate up to 15 digits (3.14159265358979).

=PI()

(Always remember to type empty parentheses ()!)

What is SQRTPI Function?

The SQRTPI function calculates the square root of a number multiplied by π: √(number × π).

=SQRTPI(number)

📋 Example: Circle Area & SQRTPI Calculation

  • Calculate Area of Circle with radius r = 5 (π × r²):

    =PI() * POWER(5, 2)

    👉 Result: 78.5398

  • Calculate Square Root of 2 × π (√(2π)):

    =SQRTPI(2)

    👉 Result: 2.5066

What is EXP Function?

The EXP function returns the value of e^x where e is Euler's number (approx. 2.71828).

=EXP(number)

What is LN Function?

The LN function returns the natural logarithm (base e) of a number. It is the inverse of the EXP function.

=LN(number)

💡 Quick Tips for Using Excel Math Functions

  1. MOD + ROW for Zebra Striping (Alternate Row Colors): You can use =MOD(ROW(), 2) = 0 inside Conditional Formatting to highlight every even row automatically!
  2. Short Symbol for POWER: Instead of typing =POWER(A2, 3), you can simply write =A2^3. Both give exact same result!
  3. Fix SQRT #NUM! Error for Negative Numbers: Excel SQRT returns #NUM! error if you pass a negative number like -16. Combine with ABS to fix it: =SQRT(ABS(-16)).
  4. Always Type Empty Parentheses for PI: Write =PI(), NOT =PI. Without (), Excel will treat it as undefined text error.
  5. Bonus Tip: Auto Show "Kg" or "Pcs" After Numbers: You can display custom units (like 25 Kg or 10 Pcs) without turning your numbers into text by using Custom Cell Formatting 0 "Kg"!
